Few regions in Greece and Europe enjoy the privilege to qualify for an Appellation of Origin for the wines they produce. Wine laws were established and adopted by the European Union (then Community). Naoussa is among the above regions. The registered place name "Naoussa" is used for wines produced from the noble variety Xinomavro, grown on specific areas and under specific growing techniques. There is also certain grape yield per hectare and vinification is according to traditional methods.
Communes that make wine that is most typical of the appellation are Naoussa, Marina, Yanakohori, Stenimahos, Lefkadia, Trilofos, Kopanos and Fytia.
Soils rich in nutrients, which are caressed by the warmth of the sun during midday or the cool breeze blowing from Seli during night, nourish the grapes and help them retain their sugars, freshness and characteristic taste. These climatic factors, which are harmoniously combined, provide the basis for the renowned wine of the region.
