Organic farming of the vine, according to the European Union regulations, practices specific methods for the cultivation of the grape. These methods concern both fertilisation as well as protection of the plant from pests and diseases. Fertilisation of the soil should comprise naturally decomposed matter and manure, whereas protection from pests and diseases that attack the vine should be achieved only with the use of approved organic chemicals that fight the vine's foes.
Through the above method vintners are able to produce "organic farming wine" and not "organic wine", a term which is totally misleading as there is no such relevant legislation for the time being.
